Treatment
Asbestosis
Asbestosis is non-cancerous, but still very serious. There is treatment available, but no cure has been found. Your physician should give you information about what is available to you. Stopping further exposure to asbestos is vital. Treatment of symptoms includes respiratory treatments to remove secretions from the lungs by draining, chest percussion , and vibration. Aerosol medications to thin secretions will probably be prescribed. Oxygen by mask or by a plastic piece that fits into the nostrils may also be needed.
Those with asbestosis are at high risk for developing lung cancer or mesothelioma. You physician will probably regularly monitor you condition for signs of either disease, or advanced symptoms of asbestosis. Some doctors unfamiliar with asbestos related diseases and it's terms, will often use "asbestosis" for other related diseases such as mesothelioma, or lung cancer related to asbestos exposure. Make sure you have a doctor who is familiar with treatment.
