Asbestosis

Asbestosis is characterized as a restricted lung disease. Fibrosis is formed and lessens the chance for the lung's to expand and exchanged oxygen. Also referred to as "stiff lung" the problem decreases the capacity or volume the lung can handle. A patient with asbestos will regularly breathe more quickly to compensated for the lungs reduced capacity.

Some other symptoms may be present, such as:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Dry cough
  • X-ray changes
  • Pulmonary deficiencies

More advanced symptoms may include clubbing of the fingers. It is important to continue to monitor asbestosis patience for malignancy, because the risk increases greatly after diagnosis of asbestosis.
