Litigation History

From about 1940-1970 companies were learning the hard facts about health hazards related to asbestos fiber inhalation. Fear began to grow amongst execs that this information would cause an economic decline in the business, and steps were taken to cover up the facts. So for several years, and in some cases for several decades, employees were exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos fibers on a daily basis.

It has since been discovered that not only did companies know about the hazards, but they began to make efforts to conceal them. Safety pamphlets and other information was prevented from being dispersed.

These companies are responsible for putting money above the lives of their employees. This is grounds for lawsuit, and these companies involved are responsible.

Recently Senators have called for a national asbestos ban. Throughout history several important steps have been taken to set regulations used in the work place.

Here is a timeline of what regulations were put in place and when. For further information on each act, visit EPA RULES & REGULATIONS.

  • 1974 HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT
  • 1992 WORKPLACE REGULATIONS
  • 1999 MANAGEMENT OF HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK
  • 2002 CONTROL OF ASBESTOS AT WORK REGULATIONS
