Asbestos Health Issues

More Information

Asbestos fibers that are inhaled, can seriously effect our health in the future. Signs of a problem may not even surface until several decades later. The three most common types of disease related to asbestos exposure are asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer.

Asbestosis
Asbestosis is not cancer, but a deadly disease. When asbestos is inhaled into the lungs, fibers are collected and will eventually lead to pulmonary problems later. Symptoms may include: shortness of breath, cracking noise while breathing, and chest pain. Asbestosis is disabling, and/or fatal. Individuals involved in demolition work are at the highest risk for contracting the disease.

Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer. It is exclusively related to individuals who have been exposed to asbestos products and fibers. With mesothelioma, cancer forms in the lining of the lungs. Mesothelioma is known to have a high fatality rate.

Lung Cancer
The leading cause of death amongst patients exposed to asbestos is lung cancer. The best way to fight asbestos related lung cancer is by being diagnoses early on. The earlier the detection, the better the chances of survival.
